Day 1: Arrive in Hobart
Arrive at Hobart Airport and make your way to the Avis Car Rental desk, to collect your hire car for your Hobart, Strahan, Cradle Mountain and Launceston short break. There will be a map in the car, or set your GPS (if booked) and head into the city to your hotel for this evening. Hobart is Tasmania’s capital city, set on the shores of the Derwent River.
Tasmania is an island of sensational scenery, take your time and enjoy it as you explore Hobart and the surrounding area. Visit Coal Valley Vineyards and enjoy as sample of fabulous cool-climate wines, discover the perfectly preserved Georgian village of Richmond. Enjoy the galleries and cafes in Salamanca Place and if you are here on a Saturday, the Salamanca Market is a must.
Enjoy dinner tonight in the Point Revolving Restaurant for a fantastic view of Hobart.
Today you take a journey into the World Heritage area – at Derwent Bridge, see the amazing wall, the history of the highlands carved in Huon pine. Stop at Lake Claire for a short walk along the shore before continuing on to the picturesque west coast port of Strahan. Join the West Coast Wilderness Railway, experience the world’s best wilderness railway journey as you travel through spectacular rainforest gorges to Queenstown.

Make an early start from Strahan for the journey to Cradle Mountain. Spend the day exploring the Cradle Mountain area – a scenic helicopter flight, a canoe tour on Dove Lake, Tasmanian Devils at Devils @ Cradle, relax at Calm Day Spa, Wilderness Gallery or an evening wildlife spotlight tour.
